How to clean your All-Plastic Bridge Cards

How to clean your All-Plastic Bridge Cards

Over time, it is inevitable that your playing cards are going to get dirty. Cards will pick up oils from being handled and dirt and grime will stick to them. While your first course of action should be to take common sense steps to prevent your cards from getting dirty in the first place (by washing hands before playing, cleaning your table before a game, avoiding eating/serving food while playing), your all-plastic playing cards can be cleaned- carefully. This is one of the biggest advantages of all-plastic cards over regular playing cards. With proper care, your all-plastic bridge cards can last for years.

Always clean with caution. The first time you clean your cards, test your process from start to finish with just 1 card to make sure no damage occurs.

Quick Clean

Wipe with a soft damp cloth (with cold water. Do not use hot water), then pat dry with clean soft cloth. Do not use paper towels or cloths with a rough texture.

Thorough Clean

It is best to avoid using soap, but if an initial cleaning with just cold water does not do the trick, a very gentle soap (such as Dawn dish soap) can be used.

Gently wipe each side of the card with your damp cloth (using cold water and mild soap if necessary). Then allow cards to air dry on a clean soft towel, side by side for about an hour per side.

What to Avoid While Cleaning

  • Abrasive cleaners or detergents.
  • Rough textured cloths
  • Heat (such as a hair dryer) or hot water.
  • Never submerge cards in water, put in a dishwasher, or washing machine of any kind.
  • Do not dry cards in direct sunlight.
  • Do not stack cards or put them away until they are completely dry.

What to Avoid While Playing

  • Keep food and drinks off the table and wipe up spills as quickly as possible.
  • Avoid serving finger foods.
  • Avoid serving oily or greasy foods.
