Charles Goren DVD Set

This set of four DVDs includes the 26-episode season 2 of the program along with bonus footage such as the first televised "vugraph" and a slide show of ACBL memorabilia.
You will see legendary players in action - B. J. Becker, Easley Blackwood, Edith Kemp, Dorothy Hayden (Truscott) and Sam Stayman to name a few, along with celebrity guests such as Chico Marx and Les Brown. The "table talk" of the players is delightful, and Goren's overly dramatized commentary is a history lesson in bidding - we find even then frisky Arthur Glatt opening 1 NT with a mere 15 points! Goren cautions his viewers that this bid may be tried only in the hands of an expert!
Goren remains a household name more than a decade after his death in 1991. His 40 published works and syndicated newspaper column were read by millions, and his stature was recognized when Time Magazine proclaimed him "Mr. Bridge" in a 1957 cover story.
Produced by the American Contract Bridge League, "Championship Bridge" is just one of the projects under way in preparation for the ACBL's 75th Anniversary in 2012.
This DVD is in black and white and looks like it would have looked like on the television in those years.
***$35.00 from the sale of each set will be returned to the ACBL for its history initiatives.***
**This item does not qualify for any further discounts.**
